Building

The OMFB Yacht Club by Csaba Virag was built in 1972 at Balatonfüred. A lakeside structure’ that was all about the water, our connection to it, and sailing itself. The sailboat’s structure inspired the architect who shaped the concrete structure with slim staircase unit, sliding glass walls and timber cladding. The architect payed attention to details, a unique knitting technique was even developed for the custom-furniture.
The three-dimensional windows are inspired by folk art motives and linking the structure to its neighbouring buildings.

What happened to the building ?

Unfortunately, the building has been demolished in 2020 (alongside another iconic building designed by the architect in the Buda castle ) and a new hotel development it taking place.
Design

The modular bench system is a contemporary interpretation of the iconic Hungarian design: 'The red bench' or 'Városliget bench'.
The bench can be set in 1, 3 or 5 seater way and combined in different colour.
The alkali activated concrete is long lasting, the recycled timber seating is offering comfort for the user. Both easily reproducable, offering easy maintanance.

CHARACTERISTICS HIGHLIGHTED IN DESIGN:
Modular system of 1-3-5 seaters
Contemporary interpretation of the 'red bench'
