Building

The apartment block is a unique example of the independent Hungarian architecture of the sixties by Levente Varga from Levay street (2nd district, Budapest) where the architect was also a resident of the property. The structure has been constructed between 1967 and 69 from mostly natural materials such as timber, brick and concrete.
Consequent to the clean layout and the bold, simple structures, the architect washed the line between inside and outside. The services were all incorporated in the middle area, covered with timber cladding. The space can be utilised in various ways and it is a flexible, open layout.

What happened to the building ?

Unfortunately, the outdated structure wouldn’t suit for the new owners, and they decided towards demolition but were really supportive of our research work.
